- Exhibition

Curated by Chiara Bertola and Fabio Cafagna
29 October 2025 – 1° March 2026
Installed on the first floor of GAM, the exhibition traces the career of Elisabetta Di Maggio, presenting both historical works and new pieces created specifically for the museum’s spaces.
Cutting - an essential element of Di Maggio’s artistic practice - is at once a method of exploring and caring for materials, and a violent gesture, one that incises without allowing the slightest reconsideration.
Her works— walls of incised tissue paper, soaps sculpted into urban maps, mosaics of wax and glass, delicate porcelain, botanical elements, mandalas composed of postage stamps — blur the boundaries between abstraction and figuration, nature and artifice.
Perceptual instability lies at the heart of the experience, inviting a sensory immersion made of scent, sound, and contemplation.
The exhibition opens with Annunciazione (2025), two dragonfly wings rendered in oxidized copper, and concludes with Desiderale (2006), a video in which incisions on film create a starry sky.
Structured across six rooms, the exhibition explores themes such as mapping, cosmic and botanical patterns, memory, the sacredness of nature, and hypnotic symmetries, conveying the artist’s profound sense of wonder before the world.
